Gino Soccio — Hold Tight

Ok, ok… I’m still stuck in 1981 today. But holy smokes WTF is this? Killer 70s lead guitar on top of Voyage-worthy dance beats. Ripe for sampling, this one. Quebec native Gino Soccio’s great gift, in my opinion, was merging electronic beats and synths with great guitar leads.
Same thing for his biggest hit, 1979’s ‘Dancer,’ with its synthetic claps and guitar trills… it was his only single to chart in the US, and it’s a long player, at over eight minutes, perfect for the dancefloor. But if I had to pick one, the guitar leads in ‘Hold Tight’ are just too fuckin crunchy to resist.
